At the end of the year the PlayStation 4 will be expected in stores. With a new console PlayStation also developed a new controller: Dualshock 4. Dualshock 4 is totally different than Dualshock 3. In this article I will tell about the new features from this controller.
Touchpad
The Dualshock 4 will have a touchpad to add a more dynamic gameplay. The touchpad is multi touch. You can use the touchpad for moves like swiping. I can imagine that the next Little Big Planet will use the touchpad for swiping objects away.
The blue light
The blue light on the back of the controller is used for tracking a player. If you are playing with three friends for example, and you switch places, the camera of the PlayStation 4 can track the light and sees that you switched. If it detects a switch it will change the layout of the screen so you can see easily who you are in the game. It can also change to a different color to indicate that you have low health for example.
Movement tracking
Your movements are tracked by a gyroscope and an accelerometer. I think this replaces PlayStation Move partly. It would be cool if you can use it to roll and duck. In Mass Effect 3 you can roll, it would be awesome to move your controller to the right, and then you roll to the right. It would also be cool to use for jumping. Imagine running over the rooftops in Assassin's Creed and then you move up, and you jump.
Sound
The Dualshock 4 has a port where you can plug your headset in. The big advantage is that you don't need to have a long cable if your television is far away. The controller also has a built-in speaker. The built-in speaker is used for close sounds. If you crash your car, the sound is close so you will here it from your controller, but a car driving by is further away so you will here it through your regular speakers.
Buttons
The start and select button aren't there. They are replaced by a single option button. I wonder how they will replace two buttons by one. Maybe the only thing that changes is the menu which opens. There is a new button on the controller: the share button. With the share button you can capture your gameplay, share your gameplay live, make screenshots and share your activities on social media.
